"Mr. Hoyt, a pioneer newspaper
editor and prominent banker was extremely civic minded and
active in his community and professions, of which he seemed
to have many, from teaching to store owner. He helped
establish and sat on the boards of several banks in
Jacksonville and Fernandina, one of which was robbed while
he was on site. He began his newspaper career selling
newspapers on a train as a boy. Mr. Hoyt died of Yellow
Fever complications which he had survived in the epidemic of
1888." This information is from the book "Tales of Our City"
put out by Evergreen Cemetery, October, 2000.
Hoyt House Bed & Breakfast in Fernandina Beach, Florida was
their home.
